What’s next for Memphis basketball?
It’s the NBA season, and the Grizzlies are still trying to find their footing.
Memphis is still rebuilding, and they are trying to get to a place where they can win, not just continue to rebuild, but also to be competitive.
The Memphis Grizzlies are in the playoffs for the second time in four years, and it seems as if they have finally found a rhythm that works for them.
After an injury-plagued 2016-17 season that saw them miss the playoffs in six of their first seven games, they have bounced back this season with a 5-2 start to the year.
Memphis had the NBA’s best record last year, but they fell to 7-3 in the postseason, finishing second to the Utah Jazz in the West.
That being said, the Grizzlies were playing at home in the first round, which was something they hadn’t done in nearly two decades.
Now that they are back on the court, it seems they are finding their rhythm.
It’s been a long road to get here, but the Grizzlies have made strides and are in a better place than when they started.
While the team is rebuilding, they are getting the ball rolling.
Memphis led the NBA in scoring last season with 106.5 points per game, which ranked fourth in the NBA.
Memphis finished the year with a record of 15-9, but a lot of that is due to their emergence this year as a top-five scoring team.
Memphis’ season has been one of the most impressive of the past few years.
In the first four games, the Memphis Grizzlies outscored opponents by an average of 23.2 points per 100 possessions.
Memphis went on a 10-game winning streak in February, including a six-game run from March 13-20.
The Grizzlies have been able to score the ball well this year, and that’s helped them build off of last season’s impressive offensive output.
Memphis ranked first in the league in 3-point field goals per game last season.
That’s been the biggest part of their offensive success, which has resulted in the Grizzlies having the sixth-best shooting percentage in the Eastern Conference this season, which is second only to the Detroit Pistons.
It was also a major reason why Memphis won the Southeast Division.
They ranked second in the conference in 3PT percentage last season, but their 3pt percentage fell to .472 in 2017-18.
The big thing Memphis needs to do to get back to their All-Star level is get more comfortable offensively.
Memphis averaged a league-low 5.1 3PT% last season and is not getting to that mark this season.
The key to that is that the Grizzlies need to get better at getting to the line.
They were eighth in the East with a 29.3 3PT%, which was the fifth-lowest mark in the entire NBA.
If Memphis can improve its shooting percentage, they should be able to improve on that number this season and get to the point where they’re competitive offensively.
In other words, the key to the Memphis offense is getting to more open shots.
The biggest change for Memphis this season has come from the guards.
While Marc Gasol and Rudy Gay have had success as a duo, it has not translated to the Grizzlies as a unit.
Memphis needs players who can guard multiple positions, which will allow them to move the ball and create offense.
There is a clear need for players who have the ability to defend multiple positions on the floor.
They are also looking for players that can guard two-guard and small forward.
This is a huge addition for Memphis as they have to be able get more out of Gasol.
He is a big-time defender and should be a strong fit for the Grizzlies this season as they look to build off the strong start the team has had.
The most significant addition for the Memphis frontcourt is Zach Randolph.
Randolph is one of Memphis’ most versatile players and has been a key component of the Grizzlies’ success.
While he is not a point guard, he has been an elite defender this season thanks to his ability to block shots and defend the perimeter.
Randolph can play the wing, the power forward, and even the small forward position, which should be the main area of need for the team this season due to the number of guards they have.
Randolph will need to become more comfortable on the offensive end, which may be hard given his ability defensively, but he is a player that can help the team at every position on the roster.
That should help the Grizzlies stay competitive and keep Memphis in the hunt for a playoff spot.
Memphis will face the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the playoffs.
Memphis lost to the Spurs in their first game of the series on Tuesday night.
Memphis and the Spurs split the first two games in the series.
It is the second straight season that Memphis has lost to San Antonio in the opening round of a playoff series, and Randolph’s performance will be a big factor in whether the Grizzlies
