How the Duke-Arizona game could affect the NBA playoffs
Duke and Arizona will face off in a potential first-round series Thursday night at 3:30 p.m.
Both teams have won the last two matchups.
The Wildcats defeated the Wildcats 102-97 in overtime last week in the Las Vegas Invitational.
Duke, which leads the all-time series 3-0, is looking to bounce back after dropping three straight games to Oklahoma and Utah.
The Cardinals, who are 4-0 against Duke, are hoping to improve on last season’s 73-73 victory in Tucson.
Arizona’s Michael Porter Jr. scored 21 points in his team’s 107-100 win.
Arizona, which is 3-2 against Duke in the postseason, lost its third game in four days last week at home to No. 11 Louisville.
“It’s always good to be back,” Porter said.
“We’ll be looking to get better and be better against Duke and we’ll be doing it in Tucson.”
The Wildcats are looking to keep pace in the West Division, where Arizona is 3½ games ahead of Duke.
The last time Arizona played Duke in Tucson, the Wildcats defeated Kentucky 101-100 in overtime.
Arizona was led by junior guard Tyus Jones, who scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds.
Jones also had 10 assists.
The Cards were without senior guard Ty Lawson (groin) and junior forward Josh Hart (ankle).
Lawson is expected to be out two to four weeks.
Hart is expected back for the Wildcats’ next game on Thursday against Gonzaga.
The only other player from last season to miss a game due to injury was freshman point guard Devin Booker, who sat out the last three games with a hamstring injury.
“He’s really going to miss it,” Arizona coach Sean Miller said.
Arizona had won five straight at home, but lost three straight at Duke.
“I know we’re coming off a tough loss, but we have a lot of pride in Arizona,” Miller said of the Wildcats.
“They’re a good team.
We just have to stay focused and focus on getting better.”
Arizona leads the Pac-12 in scoring (92.8 points per game), second in rebounds (7.3) and third in field goals made (58.9 per game).
Arizona is averaging 106.0 points per contest.
The winner of the matchup will face Oregon on Thursday.
